Let the magic begin...

St John's at night from Signal Hill, NL.
Signal Hill is a National Heritage Site, and a real draw for locals and tourists alike. This was taken in the blue hour and the trails of car lights coming and going draw the eye toward the harbour and the city behind it.

All the world's a (fishing) stage.
This is a sunset view from Bauline Line with an old fishing stage (where they clean the days catch) in the foreground. The two lights help sailors navigate the small harbour. It took a while to capture them both synchronized.

Sailboat moored in Twillingate, NL.
It was a very calm morning, though not still, with a lovely boat and its reflected mast in the middle of the water.

A little vista near Cape Spear, NL.
Before dawn near the most easterly point in North America, Cape Spear, NL. As luck would have it, the shore was not visible at the cape due to thick fog. This vista was a happy "accident" as we turned to leave - a ray of light peaking through the fog was a beacon to this vista.

Chatting trio of puffins, Elliston, NL.
Puffins are so cute and quite funny looking. In July they are so brightly coloured that they almost looked painted. They always bring a smile.

Iceberg in Goose Cove, NL.
While visiting the Northern Peninsula, there was a huge majestic iceberg right in the harbor. Within minutes there was a frightening bang and it cracked apart - with the centre falling away from us - leaving two pieces joined together.

A tail of a whale, Bay Bulls, NL.
A trip to Newfoundland and Labrador is not complete without a boat ride to see the whales. This was taken from a zodiac and the whales cooperated and put on a spectacular show.

Newfoundland wharf.
The view of the wharf with the overgrown weeds and the contrasting yellow at the top shows the hidden beauty.

Boat in the harbour, NL.
I spotted this boat as we were coming in from a boat tour where we saw whales and icebergs - what a day! The contrast of the bright red and white against the stark cold Atlantic water reflects the strength of people living in a harsh environment.

Seaside church with graveyard, NL.
While driving to a local lighthouse, this church came into view. Though there is still fog on the water, you can appreciate the proximity to the ocean. the adjoining cemetery is typical for a church in rural NL.
